Hello, I would like to introduce myself, Cheri DeGroot Executive Director/ Owner of New Journey Addiction Counseling, LLC. I am an International Alcohol and Drug Counselor. I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice and Behavioral Science from Mt. Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota. I have worked in the substance abuse, corrections and mental health fields for over 25 years. I began working in the mental health/ substance abuse fields in 1996 working for the State of South Dakota Human Services Center and then at Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield, South Dakota. In 2001, my family and I moved to Iowa where I worked in Des Moines for a Women’s Half-Way House. I was then asked in 2008 to start an Outpatient Program for Adolescents in Ankeny. While at Children and Families of Iowa (CFI), I worked up to the Residential Supervisor Position. In 2008 I started working at Creative Counseling Services and have remained there until November 2019. I also have over 10 years' experience working as a probation officer in Iowa. My motto is to meet clients where they are and help clients with their journey to improving their lives.
